Finnish Film Producer, Toni Pykäläniemi, Speaks

Toni Pykäläniemi is an excellent up and coming Finnish film producer. He’s taught me a great deal about the film industry, and what he writes here is sound, practical advice based on his experience. I thought the book industry was tough, but damn, you really have to love making films if you’re going to give what it takes to make it in the movie business… Click here

New Book Deal and Other Cool Stuff—Including Why Finland Is the Best Place in the World to Live

Good news! A deal has been reached with my U.S. publisher, Putnam, for two more novels in the Inspector Vaara series, for a total of four…. Click here to read the rest of today’s blog.

On another subject, I’ve been struggling with the issue of how to deal with this, my Finnish, website. I have three. One in the U.S. and one on Facebook. They basically mirror content, and it takes a huge amount of time to translate everything from English to Finnish and vice versa, so I’ve just been writing Finnish headers and linking to the U.S. site.  Today, I noticed that of the past 30,000 web hits on this, the Finnish site, only 23% of readers are Finnish! That means that most readers are foreign and are relying on Google translate to read posts here. That doesn’t make much sense to me, because I think probably 95% of Finnish readers of this site also read English. So I’m going to try doing it this way for a while: I’ll write and publish my own content in English, but post reviews and articles, etc., that are written in Finnish will be posted in Finnish, and foreigners will have to make do with Google translate. I realize this inconveniences many readers to some degree, but it’s the most practical way I can think of to handle the situation. Thanks to all for you patience.
